The ring-case on the table stared at him mockingly, giving Benny some nerves that would be nearly impossible to shake. Regardless of this, he shook the feeling and proceeded to get ready, looking at his watch every other minute or so to check on his time. He had approximately fifteen minutes before Annabel was going to arrive, and he didn’t know how long into dinner he’d be able to hold off on dropping the big question. It wasn’t that he was worried she would say no to marrying him, in fact, there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that she was going to say yes and start crying with joy. I mean, come on, it’s him we’re talking about. Wouldn’t any girl want him for the rest of his life? That was how he looked at it. Plus, they had been in a relationship for nearly seven years now, going on eight in December. He was just worried that he’d somehow really mess it up and she’d remember some dorky proposal instead of a romantic, sexy-like one. Taking a deep breath, he picked up the ring case and opened it, staring at the ring with a grin of satisfaction. It was beautiful; all he could imagine was her slim finger sporting it with pride, her hand rested in his as they vowed to wed in the near future. He smiled, a little laugh of just pure happiness escaping his system as he shut the case and set it on the table, leaving the dining room—which had a dinner set and ready on the table—to go and give himself a final look-over in the mirror. He was wearing some clothes that were nicer than what he normally wore, but he didn’t want to be too obvious about the occasion; not when he told her it was a simple dinner for just the two of them.
Benny gave the house a final walk-around, making sure everything was spick-and-span, like he had cleaned for two hours to accomplish. He’d come home early from work to arrange everything so that nothing would be a distraction; not dishes, not having to clean, and not having to take care of Zack or help him with his homework. Annabel was all his tonight; and he was all hers. Rory, a close relative of his had Zack in his care for the night, since it was Friday and he didn’t have anywhere to be anyways. Plus, Ben’s uncle and aunt were there too, and they had Zack over often enough that he felt no sort of anxiety. Zack was mostly what his life revolved around, and it wasn’t until the accident that he really grew a soft spot for the child – a love that he’d never recognized before. Zack was just a baby to him before, but once their parents were gone, he just grew attached to him and got custody. Right now, it stood at about ten minutes before Anna would arrive and he grabbed the landline and dialed Rory’s house, calling up to check on Zack. The conversation finished up within a minute, a few laughs shared, but he talked to Zack for a couple of minutes, his tone changing drastically. He almost got caught up talking to his brother, but once he gave his watch a glimpse he made a kiss noise and hung up, telling Zack he loved him and he’d be there in the morning before school to drive him. Now he waited at the door, keeping his eye out the window so he’d be ready for her when she came. He bit his lip and stuck the case in his pocket, backing away from the door and turning the tv on, sitting on the bottom step of the stairs while he waited and watching the TV from the side, which was just a couple of feet over in the living room.

Finishing up her shift, she rushed to her locker, eager to finally head back home. Changing in just a matter of minutes, she was back in the clothes that she had worn to work. Considering she was a Pediatric Nurse at the hospital, she had to wear scrubs for work. They were comfortable, but Anna liked to look her best. Some regarded it as a hassle to change after a shift before heading home, and even if she had pride in her occupation, she didn’t want to wear the same thing that she’d been wearing all day. She’d been around sickness all day, and after a 12 hour shift, she was exhausted. But growing up in the Murphy household had left her with one main ideal: always look your best. It was one of the few things that Anna just couldn’t seem to shake, even after all these years. She hadn’t been under her parent’s roof since she was eighteen years old, but she still made sure that she looked her best at any moment. She wouldn’t get lazy just because she had been working all day - it wasn’t a long trip home, and she had Benny there, waiting for her. With the knowledge that she’d be home in no more than twenty minutes, she slipped on her heels, grabbing her purse, and waved goodbye to a few friends as she worked her way through the familiar halls of the hospital. Anna hadn’t been working long, and was still getting used to the long hours. Thankfully, she had pride in her work, and loved the feeling she had when she left the hospital. She loved her work; it was simple as that. She chose to work 12 hour shifts, four days a week. The pay was more than compensating, and she may eventually cut back on her hours, but she liked getting the experience in. It was rewarding. Plus, at this point in her life, she didn’t have much of a reason to cut back. Now, Anna could save up the money. It wasn’t that she needed it, exactly, but it was always nice to have a little extra stashed away. Both she and Benny had enough money to live on for the rest of their lives, but she wanted to be able to pull away from her work later on, after they had kids, and spend her money on vacations or clothing or college. This was just another way for her to feel proud of herself - she would be using her own money for these things. She wouldn’t be relying on money that she hadn’t rightfully earned. Plus, with the steady flow of income, she had excess money to shop, not that she needed it. Her closet was nearly filled to the brim. Pushing open the door to the house, she walked in, looking around, checking to see if anything had changed since she headed out at six this morning. She loved living here with Benny - she loved that she could fall asleep in his arms every night, and wake up in the same safe place. Anna didn’t think that she could be any happier with her life right now. Things were all working out, and they were smart about the larger things - they had talked about marriage and kids, and had both come to the consensus that it was what they wanted. Anna felt that they would be together for the rest of their lives, and even if she was excited to spend every day by his side, she had no intentions on rushing through anything. She wanted to savor every moment she had with him, even if there may be a million more just like it. She was hopelessly in love, and she had no qualms about it. This is how it had been for the past seven years, only building more and more with every passing day. She trusted him with everything. She understood him - after seven years together, it was hard not to. --- WORDS six hundred and seventy seven ramblin' on.
